Margaret Wingard
Margaret Wingard (b. 1989) researches symbolism in traditional textiles to inform her use of materials in contemporary installations and mixed media work. She is an emerging artist from Baltimore, living and working in San Francisco whose central themes focus on the lingering heritage of colonialism through the lens of an ecofeminist. She studied at The University of Tasmania’s School of Visual and Performing Arts in Australia and Towson University College of Fine Arts in Baltimore, Maryland. Her work has been shown within the United States and abroad. In 2016, she was an artist-in-residence of Arquetopia Foundation in Oaxaca, Mexico to study Pre-Hispanic iconography in textiles and methods of embroidery.
